Greater KC Writing Project  

Established in 1983, the Greater Kansas City Writing Project (GKCWP) is one of nearly 200 university-based National Writing Project sites. We are a Pre-K - College community of educators and lifelong learners working in conjunction with the University of Central Missouri. We seek to improve the teaching of writing and improve learning in our schools. We offer teaching and writing classes for teachers and young people in Kansas City and the surrounding area.

 

Middle School Writing Conference: Our City, Your Story
Instructor: GKCWP Teacher-Consultants
Class Time: 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Location: Missouri Innovation Campus , 1101 Innovation Parkway Lee's Summit, MO
Class Dates: 5/14/2019 - 5/14/2019 Fee: $125.00
Days of Week: Tu
Students in grades 6-8 will participate in interactive writing workshops. They will write and share their writing with students from diverse schools and can participate in the Open Mic performance at the end of the day.

GKCWP teachers will share their classroom-ready activities so that registered teachers will leave with adaptable lessons they can use in their classrooms.

Lunch will be provided. Registration fee covers 1 teacher and 5 students.

Greater Kansas City Writing Project: Stories for Justice (Grades 7-12)

Class Dates: 7/8/2019 - 7/12/2019 Fee: $150.00

This camp connects students’ passions, their experiences, their stories to issues of community importance. Students will play with digital storytelling, creative argument and social justice writing in a supportive environment. Working alongside professional creatives and a dynamic group of young writers, participants will hone argument writing skills and storytelling craft. An Open Mic performance allow these stories for justice to meet a larger audience.

Course will run daily M-F from 9am - 3pm. Room number will be determined at a later date.
