UCM English Proficiency Test   

This test is used for initial Admission to UCM.

Hardware/Software Requirements:

• Laptop or PC

• Webcam or camera, microphone, and speakers

• Internet Access to web-based materials (Google or Zoom preferred for video-conferencing, shared documents, etc.)

• Web Browser running the most current version (Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari for MAC)

• Word Processing Program (Microsoft Word preferred)


UCM English Proficiency Test

UCM′s English Proficiency Test assesses Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking skills, with a focus on Vocabulary and Grammar subskills. A student who has applied to UCM may choose to take this test in lieu of TOEFL or IELTS.

Important Information: This test may be taken only one time by students prior to their arrival at UCM. UCM reserves the right to retest a student upon arrival if there is a suspicious difference in the level of English as compared to the UCM English Proficiency Test results. The scores for this test may only be used for Admission to the University of Central Missouri.

Scoring: Total: 120 points:

• Undergraduate: Conditional = 52 points and below; ELIPS = 53-60 points; Full Academic: = 61 points

• Graduate: Conditional = 60 points and below; ELIPS = 61-78 points; and Full Academic = 79 points.

  • If you have applied to UCM for Spring 2022 for full (regular) admission from your home country, the deadline for Test Registration is October 1, 2021. All test slots on or before October 1, 2021 are full.

  • If you are transferring from within the United States for Spring 2022, the deadline for Test Registration is November 1, 2021.

  • Students who have applied IEP-to-degree for Spring 2022 may still register for the test and submit new scores. However, new I-20 admission documents will not be created until arrival in the U.S. The deadline for initial test registration is October 15, 2021.

  • Students who are applying for Summer or Fall 2022 may still register for the test.

This is a 90-minute examination and students may not leave the session. To schedule a date and time for your test, you must email Valerie Heming, Director of the English Language Institute: Tests will be viewed, proctored and recorded. Students must show a valid passport in order to take the test. Test results will typically be sent to students within 48 hours after the test. In case of technical difficulties, the Test Administrator will contact you with details and reschedule the test.
